This year I have been introduced to a new way of looking at textiles, I have been shown more practical and creative ways of working, it is something that I have found very inspiring. I have been familiarised in working with knit and construction projects and also creating surface designs. The new skills that I have learnt this year are something that I wish to go on and develop further, to see how far I can push myself.
Manchester school of art is known for being a very prestigious facility for textiles in practice, and I feel that being part of this course would help me to progress with my skills and ideas in new and innovative ways. Over the first year I will be able to explore my own working style until I eventually narrow down my pathway, this aspect of the course is something that I find exciting as I will be able to continue to explore all areas of textiles until I find a style that I’m comfortable with.
The work that I have submitted within my digital portfolio shows mainly the projects from my Art foundation course along side one image of my Alevel textiles work. Creating my own fabrics and fabric prints has been a new challenge for me and it is something that I have found thoroughly rewarding. Within one project we worked as a group using Photoshop, these were both new ways of working for me and I found the experience very interesting, this style of working is something that I would be interested in trying again. I am determined to go on to push myself in textiles design in the future and I feel that being part of a vibrant and energetic city and university will inspire me to reach my potential.
