Previous work experience
  • During my Duke of Edinburgh Award I worked as a volunteer at Pendower Good Neighbour Project, which is a small charity working in a deprived neighbourhood in Newcastle. While working here I helped with an afterschool club for 6 to 9 years olds which involved working with the children and helping to prepare activities. I often go back to the project to help with community events.
  • Whilst in Sixth Form I was involved in organising a range of fundraising events and activities including a 10 mile sponsored roller skate and several parties to raise money for charities.
  • Over Christmas 2009 I worked as a Christmas temp for Boots in the Metrocentre. While there my job was to order in new stock and to ensure that the shelves were full and tidy during the busy Christmas period. I also had to speak to customers giving help and advice which was an essential part of the job.
  • During summer 2011 I worked as bar staff at a festival. This job was fast paced, busy and required a lot of quick arithmetic without a till, however this was something that I really enjoyed as it kept me on my toes.

Artist Statment
Currently I am studying textiles in practise at Manchester Metropolitan University. Being here over the past 9 months made me into a much more confident and independent person. My course can go from learning new techniques and skills to working with groups of people, as well as having to keep up date with fashion trends. It is fast paced with deadlines to meet and I know that these are skills which I will be able to transfer to my professional career.
Within my work I often find myself using different techniques and playing around with texture and shape. At the minute I feel that I am still finding myself within my work and I like to do this through as much experimentation as possible.
